This month's USA magazine Spin have written an article about this site in the reviews section, and it's surprisingly complimentary! The issue is : Vol 15/No. 11/November 1999 with Tori Amos on the front cover, and the article itself is on page 186. You can read the full text of the article here - cheers to everyone who alerted me to it.

Here's the correct details about what the Eureka Street soundtrack contains (ignore what I previously posted) :

The soundtrack is 20 instrumentals, interspersed with dialogue from the main characters in the series. All tracks were composed by Martin Phipps (friend of Ed's), with Ed co-writing tracks : 1 (Sometimes My People Shine), 4 (Jake), 10 (Oh God, A Riot), 12 (Easy to Live Without) and 20 (the excellently titled My Cat's a Wanker). He also contributes to tracks 6, 8, 13 and 17 - Ed is credited with playing E-bow and Electric guitars on the LP. Release details are the same as posted previously.

Thom is also on the front cover of the new Select magazine in England (November 1999) with an 8-page article on new songs, and thoughts about old songs. It is an extensive run-down of their past discography and it will be concluded next month. The full text will be availible here soon.

The band started recording again in their mobile Canned Applause studio near Oxford this week. Thom's really pleased at the way things are going, they spent yesterday setting up gear and messing around with MIDI stuff. Despite the NME running an article this week on the band, there still is no release date set for the LP or any live dates.

26 September

It is going to be Thom's birthday on the 7th October, and all those wanting to do something extremely worthwhile for then, click here (unless you are Thom, cos that would be spoiling the surprise, now, wouldn't it?).

Here's extensive details on the soundtrack to 'Eureka Street' :

The CD should be in all UK record stores now (if not, they can order it in from Pinnacle). The CD is *not* availible in the major Republic of Ireland record stores generally, but you can ask them to order it from Pinnacle (not Pinnacle Export).

In Australia, the series will actually be shown on ABC, some time in October, and then ABC will probably carry the soundtrack in the shops.

For the rest of the world, the CD will only be availible in stores if the series is broadcast - in which case, get in contact with the TV station involved.

The CD may also appear in on-line shops soon, although there is nothing about the CD at the moment on the BBC Music website

Pinnacle (the distributors in the UK and Republic of Ireland only) will only sell to retail outlets but will supply single copies of cd them on request. [thanks to orla, kim and toni at the bbc]

More audio will be continually added to the audio section in the coming days.

There's a top new bootleg video of last year's Amnesty International Concert produced by Griftworks Inc. with perfect quality audio and some really cool concert footage. For more details get in touch with Jim at [email protected] and you can get a copy.

The first of quite a few updates to this site has arrived. Two brand new, and very ace audio files. First one is an exclusive demo of Anyone Can Play Guitar recorded by the band in 1992, and the second is a storming live performance of Ripcord from Glasgow in 1993. 1998 concert. Head to the audio section to hear the audio streamed or you can download it if your connection isn't that fast. We've also upgraded things quality-wise, and you will now need the RealPlayer G2. Go to http://www.real.com/ and download the free player. Look out for more, coming soon.

The series, Eureka Street will now, because of demand, have an accompanying CD soundtrack released by the BBC. I'm awaiting official details and confirmation of this. In the credits of the series, Ed O'Brien is listed under 'Guitars', but there are no other band members listed as being involved, but the title music is definitely a Radiohead effort. However, the soundtrack was all instrumental, so I'm not sure personally what the CD will be like...

The band start recording again next Monday, and if you're lucky you can catch them on the official site's message board. Nigel Godrich, producer of LP4, let some interesting information slip the other night - despite there being some 'prog rock'-style comparisons levelled against OK Computer, there is definitely no way that the next album is going to be like that. Obviously time will tell, but with Ed mentioning the Fall, Neu!, PJ Harvey, who knows...

Song titles that Ed has mentioned in his diary include : Move Along, Lost at Sea/In Limbo, Everything Everyone, National Anthem, Neil Young *9, Optimistic, Everything In Its Right Place, You And Whose Army, Follow Me Around C-Minor Song, Cuttooth, Up on the Ladder and How to Disappear. Nigel and Ed also mentioned that the very old songs like Big Boots and Lift are not completely dead, just resting (the band have so much new material they are, understandably, reluctant to dig up stuff that's over 5 years old).

12 September

Eureka Street will be shown in the UK starting Monday at 9.00PM on BBC2. Radiohead have written the title music, but it will not be credited.

The band have taken a few weeks break from recording at the moment, and will resume recording on September 27th, read Ed's diary for more.

An LP on Mammoth Records entitled 'Morning Becomes Eclectic : Selected On-Air Performance' has just been released in the USA. Among the live performances by artists at the KCRW studios, track 14 is Brad Mehldau playing a jazz interpretation of Exit Music [for a film] which he also covered on his debut LP.

The official web site, is being, for possibly the first time in its life(!), regularly updated. New features include a smart new message board for people to leave messages to the band and an ongoing diary from Ed - witness Radiohead turn into Neu! and the Fall and they rehearse their way through 12 new songs. Archives of the diary will be archived here soon so you don't miss any. For those of you who are having trouble getting in to the site - the bottom rainbow bar gets through to the next page, where there is a small black 'go' graphic in the far bottom right of the page (which disappears after a few seconds), which will take you to the main page.

The series, 'Eureka Street' is being shown starting on Monday 13th September on BBC1 in the UK. The band were supposed to contribute the title music for the series, but just as a favour to a friend, so they asked that it would not be publicised as them so it wouldn't overshadow the film in any way. However, the press got hold of the story and it's pretty much been blown out of proportion. The BBC deny that the band are doing any music, but it is possible that the theme music will be theirs, and they are doing as they promised, or that they are telling the truth. But do watch it anyway, as the book is an excellent read.

NME photographer Steve Double is raising money for charity Warchild by auctioning off a variety of signed photos he's taken of stars such as Thom Yorke, Richard Ashcroft and the Manic Street Preachers. The photos will be on display in London's West Central Street AKA bar. The exhibition opens with a celebrity auction on September 16 and runs for a month. You can see some of Steve Double's pics on his website.

Finally a reminder that if you want this news (and nothing else) to arrive in your mailbox as soon as it happens, head to the subscription page and subscribe to the radiohead-announce mailing list.

The new official site is now online - visit at : http://www.radiohead.com/. For those of you who are having trouble getting in (!), the bottom rainbow bar on the first page will take you to the second page where there is a small animated graphic on the far bottom right of the page.

20 August

Stanley has been busy - the official site is a few days away from another re-design. Visit http://www.radiohead.com/ to see the work-in-progress page, and http://www.radiohead.co.uk/ for the old site (we'll put a mirror of that site for people who miss it soon...)

14 August

The official site will be updated again fairly soon with recent pictures and diaries of the rehearsals that have been taking place. No date has been set, but hopefully it'll be soon.

2 August

Work on the next LP is continuing. The band have been rehearsing upwards of 40 songs, and will in the next month or so, be deciding which ones to record for the LP and B-sides. If everything goes to plan, the general feeling is that something new will arrive around May 2000. Ed has said in last month's Select magazine about the LP : "We haven't started it properly. We've been allowed to be indulgent but I'm not sure if people are going to hear all the stuff we've been doing. But we've done a lot of work, so there's lots of stuff for future Radiohead box sets."

Thom wrote about his visit to the Cologne G2 summit to support the Jubilee 2000 campaign for The Big Issue (a British magazine) recently, you can read a transcript of his article here. Also, we have exclusive pictures of Thom on the day.

The links section of the site has been brought up to date. If your Radiohead-related link is not there, drop us an email and we can add it.

A video of the Amnesty International concert performed last December has been officially released in the USA (and can be found in online record stores such as CDNow) - however, if you are thinking of buying it, the box contains misleading information - although it is labelled as having three Radiohead songs (Bones, Karma Police and Paranoid Android), only Bones and Karma Police are on there.

The guitar tab section has been brought entirely up-to-date. Comments, corrections and additions are always welcome at the address on the page.

30 June

Thom (supporting the Jubilee 2000 Drop the Debt campaign on site) and Ed went down to the Glastonbury Festival last weekend to wander around and take in the sunshine and hot weather. Here's some of the column-filling 'gossip' the daily-published Select paper on site decided to write about the band :

Ed O'Brien of Radiohead arrived at Glastonbury with his usual problem - no car pass. With his customary creditable modesty, he refused to approach the festival authorities and say "I'm Ed from Radiohead and we headlined here two years ago so sort me out" and instead secured the requisite documentation by a process of furtive politeness. As always, total respect.
Prize for the most splendid mobile home on site must go to Thom Yorke, whose vast white winnebago - replete with awning - dominates the backstage camping area much like St. Paul's dominates the City Of London. "I've been inside," said one of his neighbours, "and it's pretty bloody roomy"

Ed was spotted queueing patiently outside a portaloo with toilet roll in hand. "It's the one thing you've got to be totally open about - going for a dump. It's the great leveller"

It seems that being billy-no-mates is the thing this year, with both Thom Yorke and Steve Malkmus from Pavement wandering around backstage unfettered by any friends.

Michael Eavis also, speaking after the festival, confirmed it will go ahead next year, and are chasing after Radiohead to headline with Oasis. This of course is subject to the band accepting - they will definitely not do it unless they feel totally confident. There is a possibility that it will be one of the first times that they play stuff from the next LP live (much like they did in 1997). As with all touring and live performances - the band will start thinking about them as soon as the next LP is finished and not before.

Lots of sections on this site are finally getting a much-needed update, following me managing to recover almost completely from all the computer problems that I've been having. By the end of this week, bootlegs, guitar tabs, audio and pictures (including some of Thom in Germany last week supporting the Jubilee 2000 campaign) will all be added to - the links will be also updated and redone. Cheers for your patience - also the email seems to be working again, so if I've not replied to anything, it may be worth re-sending!

16 June

By today, the new official site will be on-line. Anyone missing the old site can find a mirror of it here. Here's a confirmation from Stanley :

the new site is being put up now
it has to wander around cyberspace for a bit
being made secure or something
should arrive in the next 24 hrs

Some news about LP number four, direct from Thom :

The first song played at the Tibetan Freedom Concert (with Thom solo on piano) has no title yet - but does have the lyrics 'Nothing to fear / Nothing to die for' and 'I am taking all my former lovers with me' in it.

The recording of the fourth album is going not as well as expected, and it is not scheduled to arrive before Spring 2000.

About 40 songs were more or less rehearsed for the fourth LP, including one or two from the Pablo Honey era that didn't made it on OK Computer.

There is also a new Radiohead fan club, "The Panic Button". Its website will be in English, and its fanzine in Dutch. It's run by Esther out of Amsterdam. More details when they arrive. [thanks aurelien + mona]

The Tibetan Freedom Concert performance was not fully recorded officially, so any showings of it (Canal+ have announced one in the first week of September) will not have all the tracks on. You can watch Exit Music and an interview with Thom using the latest version of Media Player from www.microsoft.com on the official site or using these addresses (now working!) - interview and Exit Music (live).

Thom also took part in a chat about the Jubile 2000 campaign - for a transcript and to learn more, go to the official site.

Finally, Phil has just become a father! His wife gave birth to a boy a few days ago. If you want to send something, you can do so to the w.a.s.t.e. address (PO Box 322, Oxford, OX4 1EY).

14 June

Thom and Jonny turned up to the Tibetan Freedom Concert in Amsterdam today and played an absolute blinder of a set (Thom on acoustic guitar, Jonny filling in with hammond organ and other guitars) : New Song (Thom solo on piano), Street Spirit, I'll Wear it Proudly (Elvis Costello cover), Lucky, Karma Police, Exit Music. Exit Music can be heard and seen from the official Tibet website.

Thom will be playing a solo acoustic set as part of the Tibetan Freedom Concert this Sunday (13th) in Amsterdam's Rai Parkhalle. He is scheduled to play from 17:55 to 18:20. Kink FM in Holland will be broadcasting most (possibly all?) of the concert on the Sunday (check listings for exact details). The official TFC website will be doing some sort of web broadcast, and putting up one song from all the sets for download later.

Thom is also supporting the Jubilee 2000 campaign aimed to encourage, globally, the rich nations to drop the third world debt. Thom will take part in an online chat at the website on June 15th as well as attending the rally in Cologne, Germany on June 19th.
